  • Live Webinar!
Product not yet rated Contains 3 Component(s), Includes Credits Includes a Live Web Event on 06/22/2026 at 3:00 PM (CDT)

This is the second webinar of the ONE NANN Committee webinar series, held live on iLearn on Monday, June 22nd, at 3:00 pm Central Time (1:00 pm Pacific Time/4:00 pm Eastern Time). In this live, 1-hour panel webinar, neonatal experts will explore the realities of psychological and emotional distress among NICU parents, including trauma, postpartum mental health conditions, and the impact of social determinants of health.

Many families with children admitted to the NICU experience some form of trauma or distress. In addition to psychological distress like depression and anxiety, parents report emotional distress manifested as feelings of guilt, shame, powerlessness, loss of control, grief, isolation, and disrupted sleep. In some cases, psychological distress can persist for as much as 5 years post-discharge. Unfortunately, in the U.S., mental health services are not a standard of care in many NICUs, limiting services to families experiencing psychological distress. Join psychologist Amanda Nili and parents Claire Ricketts and Tiffany Goodson for a discussion on navigating mental health in the NICU. You’ll walk away with practical strategies to integrate parental mental health support into NICU care, including screening, referral pathways, and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve family and infant outcomes.

This webinar will take place on Monday, June 22nd, at 3:00 p.m. Central Time (1:00 pm Pacific Time, 4:00 pm Eastern Time). Attendance at the live component is required to earn CE credit.

    Learning Outcomes:
Describe the prevalence, risk factors, and manifestations of psychological and emotional distress among NICU parents, including the impact of postpartum mental health conditions and social determinants of health.
Apply trauma-informed, family-centered communication strategies to recognize and address parental distress, including anxiety, depression, grief, and impaired bonding during NICU hospitalization.
Integrate evidence-based approaches and available resources to support parental mental health into NICU care, including screening, referral pathways, and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve family and infant outcomes.

The new and updated guideline provides evidence-based strategies to support the continuum of infant-directed oral feeding for premature and critically ill hospitalized infants.

Nurses play a key role in educating caregivers to recognize and co-regulate with the infant’s behavioral and physiological cues surrounding feeding and in implementing interventions to support the infant’s self-regulation and coordination of suck-swallow-breathe throughout feeding. Evidence-based feeding protocols that can be consistently implemented and individualized to an infant’s cues and skills (infant-directed) and acknowledge caregivers as the primary feeders (family-centered) are imperative.

This updated, evidence-based clinical practice guideline* equips NICU clinicians with practical strategies to support safe, developmentally appropriate oral feeding for premature and critically ill infants. Grounded in the latest research, it provides a consistent framework for assessing readiness, advancing feeding skills, and engaging caregivers as essential partners. Ideal for interprofessional teams, this resource promotes infant-directed, family-centered care to improve feeding outcomes across the continuum.

*Clinical practice guidelines are expert-developed resources that evaluate the most current evidence and translate it into recommendations, with each recommendation graded based on the strength of the supporting evidence.

This publication was developed in part with the support of a generous grant from Dr. Brown’s Medical.

This educational product is designed to strengthen nurses’ and healthcare professionals’ ability to understand, evaluate, and apply research to clinical practice. Focusing on the full research planning process, the course guides learners from identifying clinical problems through translating research findings into meaningful improvements in patient care and healthcare systems.

This series of four video presentations provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of nursing research with a focus on neonatal and NICU practice. Designed to make research accessible and relevant, this product guides learners from bedside clinical questions to the generation, design, and dissemination of meaningful research. Participants explore how research differs from evidence‑based practice, quality improvement, and process improvement, and learn when each approach is most appropriate.

These videos are based on a 2025 Annual Conference concurrent session.

Each of the four videos focuses on the core foundations of research:

    1. Understanding the Research Process - Dr. Meredith Farmer guides learners through essential research terminology, including research questions, hypotheses, variables, populations, samples, and common sources of error.
    2. Introduction of Qualitative Research - Dr. Jessica Gomez describes key qualitative research approaches, like ethnography, phenomenology, narrative research, case studies, and grounded theory.
    3. Introduction to Quantitative Research - Dr. Elizabeth Schierholz explains quantitative approaches and explores common study designs, key research concepts, and foundational statistical principles.
    4. Introduction to Mixed Methods Research - Dr. Linda Merritt defines features of mixed methods research, including integration, meta‑inference, and purposeful sampling across qualitative and quantitative phases.

These free preparation materials will set you up for success when completing the Developmental Care Specialist Designation exam!

NANN's recently updated Neonatal Developmental Care Specialist Designation (DCSD) is intended to provide an opportunity for all neonatal healthcare professionals with Developmental Care experience to apply and assess their knowledge by successfully passing a 100-item cognitive assessment and a scenario-based case question exam, which is derived from the Developmental Care of Newborns & Infants, 3rd Edition text. To prepare potential exam takers, NANN's DCSD Task Force has curated a readiness toolkit that includes a handbook and a practice test.

The readiness manual will allow participants to gain a clear understanding of the DCSD, including its purpose, professional value, exam structure, and renewal requirements.

The free practice test contains a total of 15 questions: 10 knowledge questions and 5 scenario questions. The setup will mimic what a user sees during the official exam.

The module set includes access to seven on-demand video modules related to nurse-informed neonatal study design for drug development to provide context for the importance and implications for neonatal nurses. CE credit may be claimed per module after completion of the activity evaluation.

Neonates continue to be treated as therapeutic orphans, underserved by the drug development community, and lack safe and effective therapies. Most drugs used in this population are used off-label, impacting the evaluation of their safety and efficacy. Nurses are the members of the care team who administer medicines in the NICU to sick infants and monitor their effects. However, results of a multi-stakeholder survey to explore communication practices and stakeholders' perceptions and knowledge regarding the conduct of clinical trials in NICU revealed that only half of the nurse respondents perceive a need for additional neonatal drug therapies, despite the widespread use of off-label medications. The authors concluded that the engagement of nurses is suboptimal and indicated a need for further education for nurses regarding research. Neonatal nurses expressed a lack of effective teaching to prepare for competent participation in neonatal research. Neonatal nurses identified the drug development process and research as areas for education to support engagement in research activities in the NICU.
